Caitlin’s Closet Hackathon

On August 23, 2014 in Dothan, Alabama participants developed mobile apps in a competition to support Caitlin’s Closet® and its goals. Miranda Sappington and Matthew Bangert are the winning team! The winning apps will put the ability to ask for clothes, donate clothes or enter The Empowerment Zone to Write Your Own Story in the palm of your hand.

Caitlin’s Closet Hackathon

Caitlin’s Closet® hosts a hackathon to develop mobile apps for our new website.

A hackathon is an event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development collaborate intensively and competitively on software projects. We love this idea because it captures the spirit of Caitlin’s Closet® and is a great opportunity to promote the female voice in the technology world. Check out Challenge Post to read how other incredibly tech savvy people are changing the world one app at a time!

September is Dress for Success Suit Drive

Dress for Success is an organization whose mission “is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.” Caitlin’s Closet® and Dress for Success were cut from the same cloth: we both want to “outfit” women for important life events! Professional attire always finds its way to Caitlin’s Closet® throughout the year, but this month we will host a Suit Drive and open our closet doors to help Dress for Success continue in its mission. International Day of Girl

Just two years ago, the UN declared October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child to raise awareness about all issues concerning gender inequality around the world. It’s a day when activist groups come together under the same goal to highlight, discuss, and take action to advance rights and opportunities for girls everywhere.
